Never Give Up

To know more about what your ability to believe in yourself can do, just imagine

a young girl who learned dancing when she was three-years old and whose greatest

passion remains dancing. She loses one of her legs in an accident. Read on this true

incident that took place almost 20 years ago and find out whether she gives up dancing

or fights back to realize what she believes in:

Sudha Chandran, a classical dancer from India, was cut off in the prime of her

career --quite literally -- when her right leg had to be amputated after a car accident.

Though the incident brought her bright career to a halt, she didn't give up.

In the painful months that followed, she met a doctor who developed an

artificial limb made from vulcanized rubber filled with sponge. She helped her to

use this new artificial leg. So intense was her desire that she decided to go back to

dancing after she had been fitted with an artificial leg. Sudha knew that she

believed in herself and could fulfill her dream, She began her courageous journey

back to the world of dancing - learning to balance, bend, stretch, walk, turn,

twist, twirl and finally dance.

After every public recital, she would ask her Dad about her performance.

"You still have a long way to go" was the answer she used to get in return.

In January 1984, Sudha made a historic comeback by giving a public recital

in Bombay. She performed in such a marvelous manner that it moved everyone to

tears while catapulting her to the number one position again. That evening when

she asked the usual question her dad, he didn't say anything. He just touched her

feet as a tribute to a great artiste.

Sudha's comeback was such heart-warming that a film producer was

inspired to capture the incident into a celluloid box office hit `Mayuri.' When

someone asked Sudha how she had managed to dance again, she said quite

simply, : "YOU DON'T NEED FEET TO DANCE."

Think About It!

If we could shrink the earth's population to a village

of precisely 100 people, with all the existing human

ratios remaining the same, it would look something

like the following :

There would be:

57 Asians

21 Europeans

14 from the Western Hemisphere, both north and south

8 Africans

52 would be female

48 would be male

70 would be non-white

30 would be white

70 would be non-Christian

30 would be Christian

6 people would possess 59% of the entire world's

wealth and all 6 would be from the United States.

80 would live in substandard housing

70 would be unable to read

50 would suffer from malnutrition

1 would be near death; 1 would be near birth

1 (yes, only 1) would have a college education

1 would own a computer

A Shoulder to Cry on

My mother used to ask me what is the most important part of the body. Through the

years I would take a guess at what I thought was the correct answer. When I was

younger, I thought sound was very important to us as humans, so I said, "My ears,

Mommy." She said, "No -- Many people are deaf. But you keep thinking about it and I

will ask you again soon."

Several years passed before she asked me again. Since making my first attempt, I had

contemplated the correct answer. So this time I told her, "Mommy, sight is very

important to everybody, so it must be our eyes." She looked at me and told me, "You

are learning fast, but the answer is not correct because there are many people who are

blind." Stumped again, I continued my quest for knowledge and over the years, Mother

asked me a couple more times and always her answer was, "No. But you are getting

smarter every year, my young child."

Then last year, my grandpa died. Everybody was hurt. Everybody was crying. Even my

father cried. I remember that especially because it was only the second time I saw him

cry. My Mom looked at me when it was our turn to say our final good-bye to Grandpa.

She asked me, "Do you know the most important body part yet, my son?"

I was shocked when she asked me this now. I always thought this was a game between

her and me. She saw the confusion on my face and told me, "This question is very

important. It shows that you have really lived in your life. For every body part you gave

me in the past, I have told you was wrong and I have given you an example why. But

today is the day you need to learn this important lesson." She looked down at me as

only a mother can. I saw her eyes well up with tears. She said, "Son, the most

important body part is your shoulder."

I asked, "Is it because it holds up my head?" She replied, "No, it is because it can hold

the head of a friend or a loved one when they cry. Everybody needs a shoulder to cry on

sometime in life, my son. I only hope that you have enough love and friends that you

will always have a shoulder to cry on when you need it."

Then and there I knew the most important body part is not a selfish one -- it is

sympathetic to the pain of Others.

People will forget what you said ... People will forget what you did... But people will

Never Forget how you made them feel

Anyone Home?

One day a 6 year old girl was sitting in a classroom. The teacher was going to

explain evolution to the children. The teacher asked a little boy:

TEACHER: Tommy do you see the tree outside?

TOMMY: Yes.

TEACHER: Do you see the grass outside?

TOMMY: Yes.

TEACHER: Go outside and look up and see if you can see the sky.

TOMMY: Okay. (He returned a few minutes later) Yes, I saw the sky.

TEACHER: Did you see God?

TOMMY: No.

TEACHER: That's my point. We can't see God because he isn't there. He

doesn't exist.

A little girl spoke up and wanted to ask the boy some questions. The teacher

agreed and the little girl asked the boy:

LITTLE GIRL: Tommy, do you see the tree outside?

TOMMY: Yes.

LITTLE GIRL: Tommy, do you see the grass outside?

TOMMY: Yessssssss (getting tired of the questions by this time.

LITTLE GIRL: Do you see the teacher?

TOMMY: Yes

LITTLE GIRL: Do you see her brain?

TOMMY: No

LITTLE GIRL: Then according to what we were taught today in school she

must not have one!

"FOR WE WALK BY FAITH, NOT BY SIGHT"

Nelson Mandela

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure

It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us

We ask ourselves, "Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented,

fabulous?"

Actually, who are you not to be? You're a child of God.

Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing

enlightened about shrinking so other people won't feel insecure

around you.

We are all meant to shine as children do. We are born to

manifest the glory of God that is within us.

It's not just in some of us: it's in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other

people permission to do the same.

As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically

liberates others.

THE BOY AND THE APPLE TREE

A long time ago, there was a huge apple tree. A little boy loved to come and play

around it everyday. He climbed to the treetop, ate the apples, and took a nap under the

shadow. He loved the tree and the tree loved to play with him. Time went by, the little

boy had grown up and he no longer played around the tree every day.

One day, the boy came back to the tree and he looked sad.

"Come and play with me", the tree asked the boy.

"I am no longer a kid, I do not play around trees any more" the boy replied.

"I want toys. I need money to buy them."

"Sorry, but I do not have money, but you can pick all my apples and sell them. So, you

will have money."

The boy was so excited. He grabbed all the apples on the tree and

left happily. The boy never came back after he picked the apples.

The tree was sad.

One day, the boy who now turned into a man returned and the tree

was excited.

"Come and play with me" the tree said.

10 Real Life Lessons I learned from Brain Tumors, Cancer, Suicide & Success

By Debbie Gisonni (Adapted from Vita’s Will)

Death is never easy. It brings your life into focus. Over a period of four

years, I lost my mother, father, younger sister and a close aunt. My high

tech career afforded me a six-figure income. I had the prestige of

being one of the youngest women in Silicon Valley to run a top trade

magazine. Yet, at the peak of my career, I decided to walk away. The

deaths in my family brought me to a new realization; I had do

something more meaningful for myself and for others.

What emerged was Vita’s Will: Real Life Lessons about Life, Death &

Moving On: a book about this experience and the important life

lessons I learned from brain tumors, cancer, suicide and success.

Named after my mother, Vita, which means life in Italian. I’ve taken

the real life lessons from the book and condensed them down to ten

mega lessons. I hope they help give you a perspective on your own life

struggles.

1. Remember Your Inner Power.

Remember when you were a child and you thought you could do just

about anything? Somewhere along the line, words like, “I can’t,”

“It’s impossible” or “I don’t know how,” crept into your vocabulary

and you started believing them. But we all begin life with a

storehouse of personal power and we can draw on this when the

chips are down.

Although Vita was chronically ill and disabled for ten years, she had

a remarkable sense of her inner strength. The doctors told us she

would never walk again, but she did. They said she would never eat

again, but she did. They said she would never come home, but she

did. She taught us that you could do anything if you wanted it badly

enough. And she did.

2. Move With Life, Not Against It.

3 Wishes!

A woman was out golfing one day when she hit the ball

into the woods. She went into the woods to look for it

and found a frog in a trap. The frog said to her, "If you

release me from this trap, I will grant you three 3 wishes. "

The woman freed the frog.

The frog said, "Thank you, but I failed to mention that

there was a condition to your wishes - that whatever you

wish for, your husband will get ten times more or better! "

The woman said, "That would be okay."

For her first wish, she wanted to be the most beautiful

woman in the world. The frog warned her, "You do

realize that this wish will also make your husband the most

handsome man in the world, an Adonis that women will

flock to."

The woman replied, "That will be okay because I will be

the most beautiful woman and he will only have eyes for

me."

So, she became the most beautiful woman in the world.

For her second wish, she wanted to be the richest

woman in the world. The frog said, "That will make your

husband the richest man in the world and he will be ten

times richer than you ." The woman said, "That will be

okay because what's mine is his and what's his is mine."

So, she became the richest woman in the world!

The frog then inquired about her third wish, And she answered, "I'd

like a mild heart attack !"

A guy walking down the street sees a woman with perfect breasts. He says to her, “Hey miss, would you let me bite your breasts for $100 dollars?

“Would you let me bite your breasts for $1,000 dollars?” he asks again.

“Listen you, I’m not that kind of woman! Got it?” So the guy runs around the next block and faces her again. “Would you let me bite your breasts just once for $10,000 dollars?”

Reduced Adjective Clauses

1) The stolen car was found today.

2) The car which was stolen yesterday was found today.

در جمله‌ي‌(2) جمله‌واره‌  which was stolen yesterday  توضيحي‌ مي‌دهد براي‌  the car ، پس‌ جمله‌واره‌ صفتي‌ ناميده‌ مي‌شود.

3) The energy which is coming from fuels like coal and oil is used to heat and light our homes.

در جمله‌ي‌ (2)  which was stolen  ...

 ولي‌ در جمله‌ي‌  ... which is comming from fuels (3)  به‌ كلمه‌ي energy   نقش‌  و مفهوم‌ مفعولی مي‌دهد.

چنانچه‌ بعد از اين‌ ضماير فعل‌  be  وجود داشته‌ باشد،  (were, was, are, is, am)  مي‌توانيم‌ ضماير  which, that, who  را به‌ همراه‌  be  حذف‌ كنيم‌ و به‌ اين‌ شكل‌  reduced form یا شکل خلاصه شده (adjective phrase ) می گویند

4) The car stolen yesterday was found today.

(= The car which was stolen ...)

5) The energy coming from fuels like coal and oil is used to heat and light our homes.

(= The energy which is coming from fuels ...)

6) Most plastics .............. from oil are difficult to recycle.

1) which made             2) are made                 3) made                        4) that made

7) Heat .............. in the atmosphere causes the Earth to get warm.

1) trapping                   2) trapped                   3) which trapped          4) which trapping

 - گزينه‌هاي‌ (3) و (4) غلط‌ هستند چون‌  (are, am, is, be, ...)

8) He is the person who is most concerned about my success.

He is the person most concerned about my success.

9)  All over the world, there are people who pollute the environment.

All over the world, there are people  polluting the environment.

10) Passengers who travelled on this bus bought their tickets in books.

Passengers travelling on this bus bought their tickets in books.

11) Anyone who has a library card may check out books.

4) You could easily cut that piece of meat with a sharp knife.

5) He was killed by his wife with a hammer.

(Verb + Object + Bare infinitive)

Let & Make

6) Hot weather makes me feel tired.

7) Let me carry your bags for you.

8) She made peter wait outside.

9) Her parents wouldn’t let her go out alone.

10) He made me move my car.

I was made to move my car.

11) She let me leave the class early.

I wasn’t let leave the class early.

Allow

Permit +

Force

12) The speaker did not allow us to ask any questions.

13) The teacher forced all the students to read a book about effective ways of giving speech.

14) They permitted us to use their garage.

Help

15) I’ll help you (to) arrange the party if you like.

16) she tried to be serious, but she couldn’t help laughing.

(= she couldn’t  stop herself from laughing).

 17) she couldn’t help me (to) move the table.

Conjunction in Adverbial Clauses

1) Mr. Alavi arrived home at 6:30.

2) Mr. Alavi arrived home while we were having dinner.

 در اين‌ جمله‌ قيد زمان‌ while we were having dinner  مي‌باشد كه‌ خود به‌ تنهايي‌ يك‌ جمله‌ است‌.

Mr. Alavi arrived home ‌

While we were having dinner …

3) While we were having dinner, Mr. Alavi arrived home.

4) When you do aerobic exercise and bring in oxygen, your heart becomes stronger.

5) As your muscles get stronger, you can do more active things for longer periods of time.

6) Exercising is an excellent way to feel happy whether you are exercising on your own or with a group.
